Workshop A

How to develop cost-effective e-courses

Jeanne Lam, Norris Lau, Daniel Mok and Simon K S Cheung
SPACE, University of Hong Kong
Hong Kong SAR, China

Modern day students expect more e-learning support to complement or supplement their studies. e-Courses can fulfill students' ubiquitous learning needs and can save teaching costs in the long term due to their reusability. However, high initial development costs and complex technical issues are the barriers for institutes to start building quality e-courses.

In this workshop, we will share our experiences in overcoming the cost and technical barriers in developing cost-effective e-courses using a Financial Planning e-course as an example. Participants will have an opportunity to learn the process of e-course development starting from scratch. Development practices and technical issues will be addressed in detail.

This workshop is suitable for course administrators and instructors who would like to develop cost-effective e-courses.

Workshop F

e-Portfolio: An outcome-based approach to learning and teaching

Philip Tsang
Caritas Francis Hsu College
Hong Kong SAR, China

Ken Eustace
Charles Sturt University,
Australia

The workshop will showcase our experiences in using e-Portfolios (ePs) concept as part of our outcome-based approach to learning and teaching. The workshop will cover the What, Why, How, When, Where and Which aspects of ePs. Samples of good and not so good examples of e-portfolios from our teaching of Website Design and Network Programming courses will be shown. Participants will be guided to develop ePs, write ePs assignment, mark ePs assignments and publish ePs lessons.
